The challenge

Yosemite Valley’s traffic congestion was degrading both the visitor experience and the place itself. How might we redesign the mobility system for people and for place?

My role

Led the data and software workstream, turning interviews, visitor intercepts, and traffic data into evidence the vision could stand on.

The work

Six weeks immersed in the Valley produced a program vision with 35+ project briefs spanning transit, gateway communities, data science, and experience design — delivered as an 85-page visual strategy book, a VR prototype, and a data science roadmap.

The impact

The Bike the Valley brief led directly to the Yosemite Bike Share Program launched in 2018. The park’s Visitor Access Management Plan, piloted in 2024, aligns directly with the project’s core vision.
